I’m not entirely sure why there is the level of animosity regarding this film. Yes it borrows plot points from many previous films (Alien Nation, Leathal Weapon, LOTR) but honestly what doesn’t have a hint of other directors styles, other plots, other effects.

I liked it. There were a few times that seemed strained until it got rolling. It succeeded in entertaining me - and sometimes that’s all I want in a movie.
