Review of Bright (2017) by Amanda P — 23 Dec 2017
This film is exactly what you think it is. Will Smith is here doing what he does best and Joel immediately draws you in as the lonely Orc who is trying to find his place in this world. The arts and set department did a fabulous job in the beginning of the film with nuances in the graffiti and other aspects to give you a real sense of the world you are about to enter.
Although the film does touch upon racial constructs (in terms of species or races in RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons) and discrimination between these various races, it is only part of the film. Unlike Marvel films which require the audience to watch multiple platforms and films in order to tell one story, this film gives you enough to understand everything you need to know while also giving ample opportunity for the characters and universe to expand into a more epic story.
It's worth the watch.
