Review of Bright (2017) by Jimbob C — 06 Feb 2018
This movie isn't nearly as bad as the Tomatometer would lead you to believe. Some of the villains are cartoonish and I'll admit that I cringed every time anyone said "magic wand", because it's painfully silly.
The race allegory is also there, but on a level that's a little too simplistic to really work. That having been said, the production value is high, the fight sequences are well choreographed and Joel Edgerton is pretty great.
Will Smith is Will Smith, so your mileage may vary there, but all in all this is a solid movie. It's not groundbreaking or half as smart as its Ayer and Landis probably think it is, but it's fun and entertaining, and isn't that all we need from an action movie with orcs featuring Will Smith in the lead?
