Review of Brief Interviews with Hideous Men (2009) by Erno K — 30 Mar 2010
Well, this movie is certainly exactly what the title says.
I thought the premise of this film was intriguing. I just didn't expect it to be this goddamn boring. Most people would anticipate that a movie about people talking would be just that, but I had seen many a great flicks revolving around dialogue. This simply wasn't one of those.
Many of the things the interviewees say in the film are probably true, but they certainly don't give a flattering picture about us males. Not that the title was implying otherwise. The good thing about the monologues is that some of the stuff is pretty insightful, or at least never explored in a movie before. In a more mainstream movie they don't dig this deep, which is kind of a bummer. Those movies actually prefer to devote some time for something called "a plot".
I also didn't like the structure of the film, which could be described as "all over the place". I summoned all my strength and dragged myself through this, but it wasn't fun. I feel like I have to watch something with lots of explosions now merely to replenish my will to watch movies.
