Review of Brief Interviews with Hideous Men (2009) by Hunter S — 22 Jul 2010
This is not all bad, in fact I almost gave it another half-star, so maybe "not all bad" isn't such an accurate way of explaining how I feel about it. Some of the monologues are pretty good, and it had a number of actors who I like to see getting work (because I clearly am Mr. Showbiz). Scarlett pointed out, and I agreed, that the jump cuts (or whatever they should be called) in the conversations were less effective than distracting, although maybe that was an intentional thing.
I still have an as-of-yet untested man-crush on the late David Foster Wallace, and Infinite Jest is sitting on my bookshelf, waiting for my next pretentious reading period (well, after this one coming up), so maybe I'll read this one first and see how the film measures up.
