Review of Brief Interviews with Hideous Men (2009) by Mike C — 24 Jan 2011
Great review says this movie is bad enough to possibly keep watchers from reading David Foster Wallace. Despite the surprisingly big cast, it fails pretty much at everything. Krasinski is okay on The Office but I don't think he's that great otherwise. He's definitely riding the success of The Office.
Foster wrote really long, highly-respected novels. And then he killed himself. At 80 minutes, this movie was already suspect. Not having ever read Wallace, it's hard to say how short the movie fell. The movie is mostly monologues describing men's attractions/thoughts/relationships with women. Nothing very profound and nothing really moving. Surely Wallace was better than this.
