Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by Jecca N — 16 Jul 2008
Intimately shot by Lean; a surprise, as I'd only seen his "Lawrence of Arabia" and bits of his "Bridge on the River Kwai" before. The story is, perhaps, not particularly interesting nowadays, but Celia Johnson's performance as a staid housewife struggling between her comfortable suburban life and the novelty of love is worth watching.
I wish I'd been able to do the Lean retrospective at the BFI last month.
