Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by Kitty Kitty B — 28 Jul 2008
Tragic tale of a fleeting but intense romance in England in the 30's between a man and woman, both married, who meet in a train station. Well written and cast. Superbly acted. Particularly striking (and successful) is David Lean's brilliant and maverick use of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 as the score for the film. Despite the Hollywood ending, I really enjoyed it.
[BONUS: Contains the most romantic discussion of pneumonoconiosis ever filmed.].
