Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by Madhuri A — 29 Jul 2008
I love these subtle yet uber dramatic old films. This one reminded me a lot of "Indiscretion of An American Wife" although it felt surprisingly more tender and less judgmental than "Indiscretion". What a difference a decade makes and how interesting that the '45 film is more forgiving than the similar story told in '54.
Anyway, the story is one that most of us can relate to and well told. It's all very subtle and simply portrayed yet the viewer can project so much of themselves and their own experiences on it that it feels really deep and complex. A genuinely lovely, moving film.
