Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by Russ C — 20 Aug 2010
Absolutely stunning film. Each meticulously thought out shot - repressed emotions externalised through dramatic circumstance - almost brought a tear to my eye.
The central role of the small café isolated in the busy station and the role of tea in their relationship (like so many others in the country) was especially poignant in a Britain just coming to terms with the end of the war.
Absolutely lifechanging. I was about to give this film 4 and a half stars, but upon reflection, could give no actual reason not to award the full five.
