Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by Cal ( — 27 Nov 2010
A very beautiful and heartbreaking love story about two ordinary strangers, both happily married, till they meet at a train station and find themselves drawn into a short but intense and unforgettable romance.
With a memorable score in Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto, this film has been call by many the British's "CASABLANCA",and I think in our modern times the only other film that comes close to it is Won Kar-Wai's "In the mood of love".
The two main leads,Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard, are so exquisitely real in bringing out the inner life and emotions of their doomed love affair, trapped within a represive social system. A dazzling and glorious film by legendary director David Lean from a play by Noel Coward, are you ready for a "Brief Encounter" with one of the most romantic movie in the world!
