Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by G S — 02 Apr 2012
Lean's direction must be applauded for giving this film an absolutely spellbinding atmosphere. Despite working with obviously melodramatic and cliche romance with the writing, Lean's adaptation makes everything so understated, so middle-class and common, and so unspectacular that the film is very relatable and heartfelt.
This film was a very thrilling and never dull romantic drama which can hold it's own against other classics like Casablanca.
