Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by Paul R — 20 Jul 2012
Brief Encounter is one of my favourite âOldiesâ?. Â Filmed in 1941 it does now show itâ(TM)s age with itâ(TM)s bizarre dialogue and stilted British-ness but that all just adds to itâ(TM)s charm.
A happily married woman gets taken out of her predictable life when she meets a rather endearing stranger in a station waiting room. Here blossoms a relationship she cannot just ignore and soon she falls in love with him, starting an interesting yet ultimately doomed love affair.
For its time, this film deals with some very unspoken issues and in todayâ(TM)s standards films of this nature would be graphic and even crude, but Brief Encounter deals with these issues with dignity and class.
Itâ(TM)s a touching and interesting tale of relationships. Itâ(TM)s a great film that certainly always hits the spot.
