Review of Bride of Frankenstein (1935) by Tommy P — 24 Jun 2008
Everything a movie should be-- hilarious, profound, and moving. You wouldn't think a Frankenstein movie would be intentionally funny, or have any relevant commentary on the human condition. But there are at least two scenes in this film (particularly the one with the blind hermit, so effectively parodied in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN) which can move you to tears if you're that sort of person.
American cinema's greatest study of alienation and loneliness. And Doctor Pretorius is hilarious.
"Alone-- bad! Friend--good!".
