Review of Bride of Frankenstein (1935) by Dave A — 29 Jun 2008
Well, sequels are never as good as the first film, not normally anyway, but here's the exception; the brutish creation of the first film makes a friend in a bllind hermit, learns how to speak and becomes more a figure of sympathy than of sheer terror... The figure of horror in this film is the wonderfully insane Dr. Pretorious and his dream of "a new world of gods and monsters!". Also, if you think injecting a bit of humour into a horror film is a relatively modern phenomena, think again...
The Bride only makes a brief appearance at the end, but it is one of the most memorably iconic scenes - and surely the greatest hairstyling - in film history.
