Review of Bride of Frankenstein (1935) by Robert W — 23 Jul 2009
You can pretty much blame this movie with all the horror sequels that have been made in the past 75 years. If Bride had been as bad as Son of Kong, no one would have ever mentioned sequel again, but it is not only good but better than Frankenstein, mainly because Boris Karloff is allowed to do more than stumble around and grunt.
There's some humanity to his character and a tender moment when he is treated to the hospitality of a blind hermit. Frankenstein seems to be more mad in this movie and he has a colleague who is just as crazy.
The acting is a little cheesy and there's some scenes that just don't work, such as the miniature king and queen. What I was amazed at is how little there is of the bride whose movements had to influenced Jeff Bridges in Starman.
