Review of Bride of Frankenstein (1935) by Anthony L — 23 Jun 2010
The only time in universal monster's history where a sequel of an original monster tale had been not only brilliant in its own right but better than the first instalment... Bride is in very way superior to Frankenstein, its smarter, funnier, of a much higher qaulity and far more enjoyable...
I can't rate James whales part two higher, it is in all honesty not only the best sequel in the cannon of monster movies (with very little competition from the likes of "the creature walks amongst us" one of the follow ups to the creature from the black lagoon) but is probably the best of the bunch full stop, better than Dracula, better than the Wolf man, better than the creature from the black lagoon and much much better than The Mummy... but even more rare is the fact that an early sequel is in many ways better than the original... A Brilliant slice of gothic horror that still holds up today...
