Review of Bride of Frankenstein (1935) by Andy S — 26 Mar 2012
This is an absolute masterpiece of cinema. I sat enthralled with this story as it took me from thrills to comedy to terror. James Whale conjured a brilliant framing device with the Mary Shelly / Lord Byron / Percy Shelly scene adding more to the dreaded tale of Frankenstein and his Monster.
What an absolute joy it was to see Boris Karloff's performance as he moved us to carrying about him. FRIEND.. GOOD. Jack Pierce's make-up is again astonishing, even better this time around. The addition of mad scientest #2, Ernest Thesiger as Doctor Pretorius was tremendous.
He was the worst creature in the film, but an absolute riot as a complete loon. I didn't care from the screeching maid towards the beginning, but I suppose it keep the film on a lighter footing as to not be so heavy handed and dark as the first film.
When the film ended I was hurt... I wanted MORE !! This, for me, will go down as a true classic and a favorite film. WE BELONG DEAD !!
