Review of Bride of Frankenstein (1935) by Francis L — 22 Dec 2013
Yes, Bride of Frankenstein is an improvement over the solid original. Yes, upon re-evaluating, one can see the clever undertones, inventive humor, and subtle emotions. And yet, I just can't bring myself to fully embrace this movie.
"Bride" has an rushed air to it; the film shoves Victor Frankenstein into the movie and does nothing with him and captures the Monster only to have him escape mere seconds later. The elements of a great classic are here, but "Bride" can't quite tie them together.
