Review of Bride of Chucky (1998) by Johnny T — 07 Mar 2011
Brace yourself: this is a clever, consistently entertaining, and even inspired continuation of the mean-spirited slasher series. Chucky is back with a better than usual vehicle, thanks to upping the humor -- most of which works. Has a genuinely goofy premise, and is far more original than the other sequels. A hilariously campy and surprisingly diverting horror sequel that's always smartly aware of its own ridiculousness. This may be hard to believe, but ``Bride of Chucky'' is a smart little horror movie. The fourth installment in the ``Child's Play'' series has a sense of its own silliness -- and a tight plot that provides a clothesline for a string of funny, macabre murders.
VERDICT: "Matinée" - (Mixed reaction). These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says to pay matinée prices to see at a theatre or buy an ex rental or a cheap price the DVD to own.
