Review of Brick Mansions (2014) by Lora R — 28 Jul 2014
I didn't know Brick Mansions was a remake of District 13 and only found out after 5 minutes or so in to the movie. I've watched District 13 in the past and I loved that movie!
Brick Mansions cannot be compared to the original, because the original is just better. This movie didn't make sense at times like why didn't Damien tell the police chief or mayor that the device was aimed at their city and would kill everyone there when he called them? In the end you find out why they didn't make him mention that, but it's just something you notice when you watch the movie. You also ask yourself why they drained Tremaine's bank account.
I only liked David Belle and Paul Walker from the cast and hated the rest. I didn't like their cast choices, especially RZA. His accent was annoying the hell out of me, because I couldn't make out what he was saying most of the time even with subtitles. I also hated his gang and their amateur acting. I also didn't like the actress chosen for the character Lola.
The dialogues are a little dull and boring and lack emotion. If you compare this to the original District 13 movie, you will know what I'm talking about. That movie was fun to watch and I kind of missed that feel in Brick Mansions.
The movie is watchable if you don't have high expectations.
R.I.P. Paul Walker.
