Review of Brick Mansions (2014) by Isaac B — 04 Apr 2015
To be fair, I watched about twenty minutes of this film and then turned it off. If it somehow manages to get significantly better as the film goes on then disregard my comments. I know it is unfair to rate this movie without watching it through the end however, there was no way I was going to watch the rest of this one and I wanted to write about my first impression and the reason why I turned it off so quick.
I was slightly curious and hopeful for this movie. The parkour seemed fun in the trailers and I am a fan of Paul Walker. When this movie began, I instantly saw the acting talent used for this movie being shit poor. There was this gangster-like confrontation filled with caricatures that almost seemed like it was a spoof of other films. Then the parkour scene began and I quickly realized that the action in this movie was going to be terribly shot with constant camera cuts that block out much of what could have been really cool. This was confirmed with another action scene later on. I do really like Paul Walker but even he knew what this movie was going to be and did not seem to bring his A-game. I'm pretty certain that this was an American remake of a foreign film and if it is then I want to see that one because I'm sure it's better than this.
