Review of Brick Lane (2007) by Gary G — 19 Jun 2008
Beautiful shot, well crafted, but profoundly mundane and uninteresting film about a Bangladeshi Muslim woman living in an arranged marriage in England, who falls in love with a young political activisit in the days before 9/11.
Totally misses a chance to examine Muslim culture and anti-Muslim prejudice. Instead, it skims over them for a safe, but relatively dull family drama.
