Review of Brick Lane (2007) by Kevin C — 20 Dec 2008
An intimate film about life in a foreign country. Nazneen is a beautiful young woman sent by her father from their little village in Bangladesh to an arranged marriage in London. 16 years later and she is living in a small flat with her husband and two daughters near the famous curry restaurants of Brick Lane. Nazneen dreams of returning to Bangladesh to see her younger sister, but when the opportunity arises, will she go?
I really liked the film, and the close, intimate, style of the cinematography. The camera hardly ever gives a wide angle view which perfectly reflects Nazneen's narrow life style and down cast eyes.
