Review of Brick (2006) by Cole M — 02 Jan 2011
Taking its cues from the verbal style of Dashiell Hammet's novellas "The Maltese Falcon" among other notable hard-boiled noir tales and mysteries, the likable quirkiness of the movie, wittily and bracingly gives its respects to the 30's-50's set in modern times. It is like watching Bahz Luhrman's "Romeo & Juliet"--- there's something odd about it but undeniably pleasing about the idea.
As a fan of noir itself, this is one movie I'm glad I was recommended by a buddy to watch.
