Review of Brick (2006) by Kristen W — 04 Sep 2011
At some point noir movies started becoming so formulaic that I almost stopped watching them. Then I came across brick. A film that manages to use every classic noir element but still manages to be fresh due to the high-school setting and other toned down as well as added elements.
When I say toned down I by no means say that it's weak. It's as hardboiled a hardboiled detective film can be. Great atmosphere (i loved the color schemes) and nice subtle home made music. A great neo-noir paying homage to the classic films that defined film noir.
