Review of Brick (2006) by Ken B — 07 Oct 2011
I have a a few movies that I will recommend to just about anyone or even play the movie for them if we can't figure on a good movie. This is one of them. It doesn't work for everyone, but I love it.
I can watch it over and over. The dialogue is snappy. It is the best noir detective film retro film made. Especially since it is in the context of high school. Unlike most "high school" films like "Death of a High School President' this film doesn't use the old standbys of coarse language, sexual hi jinks, and a high school dance to be a "high school" film.
Instead the stylized and original quirky style comes together in a form that makes it both interesting and cool. The movie seems to have become more iconic over the years which I think says a lot about the film.
Certain lines, symbols, and moments from the movie are identifiable to fans. It is not a movie for the masses, but an amazing movie nevertheless.
