Review of Breaking Away (1979) by ??Tt ? — 25 Oct 2007
My dad was a teacher and would bring home some of the movies they screened for the school. We watched these movies on the living room wall with the 16mm? or maybe 35mm projector humming away. If you do not appreciate riding a bike to Italian symphonies after seeing this movie, then don't bother talking to me, because we would have nothing in common.
A bittersweet tale of high school friends who start to find their own paths in the years after graduation. I can't see Daniel Stern without thinking of him descirbing the frat boys who beat him up as "wearing Brut aftershave and reeked of Lavoris.
" Dennis Chirstopher has made several B horror/suspense flicks, but I always will think of him as Enrico Gimondi the phony Italian exchange student. Dennis Quaid as the former jock without a cause and Jackie Earle Haley punching the clock literally are both burned in my memory.
Excuse me, I now need to get on my bike, because the Italians are coming.
