Review of Breaking Away (1979) by Tom S — 16 Aug 2008
A thing of inspiring beauty. Like "Rocky", Peter Yates' film is only partly about the sport it revolves around; instead of a boring feel-good sports showboat, the film uses races to delicately wrap its intricate plot details involving family and growth.
The friendship that intertwines the four "cutters" is touching and unforceful, and the climactic scene is engaging and exciting in a number of ways.
