Review of Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) by Jeff B — 25 Mar 2011
How is this a chick flick? It's a romantic comedy, but it's not at all reflective of a female-empowering point-of-view or even a empathetic-view toward Holly's life and thoughts. Audrey Hepburn gives a wonderfully nuanced performance as a young woman running away from everything she's ever had because she clearly had a very disturbed childhood.
George Peppard plays the role of a man just looking to coast through life until he realizes there's more to it than that, so he ends up playing a slightly stronger version of Holly--only he has the willpower to change and wants her to change, as well.
A good film and very enchanting. Hepburn's never looked more gorgeous and the 60's New York setting has a nice texture to it, too.
