Review of Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) by Luca D — 25 Sep 2011
It's filmed well, acted well, and yet the heart isn't there. But then again, the characters were supposed to be pretty heartless which is unusual for a romantic movie. So how does the movie hold up 50 years later? It's still a great capsule of the fashion and style of the 1960's.
Mickey Rooney still steals the show in a terrible way as a racially absurd performance, and Truman Capote's tales on the escort service dark side and homosexuality are almost all erased. A tame movie actually, but still one of those really great films of the time.
