Review of Breaker Morant (1980) by David K — 12 May 2008
This movie is actually pretty good. "Breaker Morant" is based off of a stage play that is concerned with the moralities of war and how orders are given and how they're carried out. This film is from the New Austrailian Cinema movement and can be seen as a direct influence on movies like "A Few Good Men" and "Gallipoli.
" ("Gallipoli" was from the same film movement.) By today's standards, I don't feel that "Breaker Morant" really holds up all that well. It definitely has contemporary issues and asks important questions about war and morality, but it seems dated.
I'd much rather watch "A Few Good Men." However, I will give credit where credit is due, and "Breaker Morant" is definitely worth seeing because it's the first of its kind.
