Review of Breaker Morant (1980) by Frank G — 29 May 2007
A Film by Bruce Beresford starring Edward Woodward, Bryan Brown, and Jack Thompson.I first read this book back in the old days. The book it's based on is 'The Breaker".A really, really, good read.
The story is about the military Courts Martial of three Australians back in 1901 during the Boer War.They were on trial for executing Boer Gueurrillas, which was common back then. And, also, shooting a German Missionary.
The movie combines World politics, perjury, military law, faded memories, and the need to do what's right in combat. What makes the directing by Beresford so outstanding is that the film is told from so many different points of view.
I'm not going to give the ending away but if you liked the movie 'A Few Good Men', you'll love this movie.
