Review of Braveheart (1995) by Simeon T — 15 Jul 2014
This may be the best medieval film of all time. It was my favorite movie for a long while, and its imprint remains on me. It courses with such passion and primal spirit. Some react negatively to its maximalist approach, but I'm not one of them.
I also don't care that much of the story is speculative or made up, if it is a mythological portrait it is a stellar example of that mode. No film has more blood in its veins than this one. Also has one of the best soundtracks ever, and an all-time great villain in Patrick McGoohan's icy King Edward Longshanks.
