Review of Brave (2012) by Moush A — 19 Oct 2013
After a long time, I really enjoyed watching an animation movie. 'Brave' takes me back to the old Disney era with its fairytale-ish qualities. A typical tale that turns into an unconventional story about the relationship between a mother and her daughter.
It never failed to surprise me with its emotional threads or its hilarious humour. Although, it ended predictably, I think it was a satisfying conclusion to the central theme of the film. The film itself looks beautiful with its vibrant colours, fluid animation, and literally, what I think is now the best CG hair ever (Until Pixar outdoes itself again!).
The only one complaint I have is the camera. Specifically, the camera movements that are sometimes overdone and tend to bring one out of the movie experience. These kinds of camera movements only work on expansive establishing or action shots.
Keep it flat, people. Keep it realistic, keep it believable. No need to go crazy with the 3D space. Other than that, keep it coming Pixar (and I'm not talking about Cars or Planes or Sequels, but original story-telling!).
