Review of Brave (2012) by N M — 29 Jul 2013
Incredible visuals? Check. Fun dialog? Sure. Adorable characters? Defo. Unexpected world? Well, it's certainly not an ocean, an antbed, a monster dimension, a toybox, a high-tech dystopia, Route 66 with talking automobiles, a kitchen with a mouse chef, or a journey outside civilization propelled by colorful plastic balloons.
So for these guys, not so much. However, the Scottish highlands full of warriors, royals, and magic ain't exactly Mayberry, North Carolina, either. Despite the lead, Princess Merida's sensational hair, the only characters I could truly latch onto were her three younger brothers, who weren't heavy and dynamic enough too captivated me for an entire movie.
Brave's relative inadequacies reinforce the strength of the Pixar catalog.
