Review of Brassed Off (1996) by Alan B — 11 Nov 2007
Poignant look at the effects of the Thatcher government "slash and burn" economic policies in the 80's. Compares and contrasts the dignity, culture and sense of community of the mineworkers, and their families, with the sleaze and moral bankruptcy of the government of the day.
There, got that off my chest. Tremendous performances, especially from Pete Postlethwaite, Stephen Tompkinson and, of course, the Grimethorpe Colliery Band. And doesn't that final speech by "Danny boy" just tell it like it was (is?).
