Review of Branded (2012) by Michael P — 08 Sep 2012
This movie is too smart for you. It's too smart for a lot of people and I'm okay with that. There are lions who are smart and like to learn things, then there are the lambs who fall for every trick and avoid thinking like it could kill them. This movie won't be popular because there are more lambs then lions. Nothing about this movie is complicated and yet people don't understand it. io9's review said that the Marketing Guru was the movie's villain. That statement shows they did not understand this movie and it was too complex for them. The movie had no villain. This isn't a Disney story, this is a real story, a "war story" as it is known in the world of literature. Branded isn't about reaching a goal it is about the struggle. The fight for yourself, the secret things within all culture that are kept hidden from us, the evil which rules humanity, learning, being smart, sacrifice, motif, all of the things that make a work of art, magical. It is clear that the creators of this movie wanted to do magic with the movie. I loved it.
Most people won't like this though, it is too smart of a movie, too cultured, not everyone is as well versed in fiction and non-fiction like me (I'm a Journalist with an English minor), and this movie was made for someone like me.
I'm not surprised this is getting such shitty reviews, just like DKR did. There is a conspiracy going on. Artists are trying to send out a message and the money doesn't want people to understand the message so they give those special movies shitty reviews.
