Review of Boyz n the Hood (1991) by Lesley N — 07 Oct 2009
"One of every 21 Black American males will be murdered in their lifetime. most will die at the hands of another Black male". I can't believe I put off seeing this for so long. Something about the title (it's that "Z") and I thought it was going to be a gangsta movie full of guns, ho's and bling.
Instead its a non-cliched poignant coming of age film, showing a young Cuba Gooding Jr and his friends growing into men in a (leafy suburban) LA ghetto. Good film.
