Review of Boyz n the Hood (1991) by Bob S — 14 Jul 2012
Under the electrifying direction of John Singleton, Boyz n the Hood is an intimate, realistic gut punch of a film. Not only does Singleton manage to avoid stereotypes of all kinds, but he makes the most realistic depiction of "the hood" ever captured on film.
He manages great performances out of all of his actors (especially Cuba Gooding, Jr., Laurence Fishburne, Tyra Ferrell, and Ice Cube), and the film as a whole is one of the best of the 90s.
