Review of Boyz n the Hood (1991) by Rainer K — 09 Aug 2011
Boyz N the Hood is another study of a certain community of a deprived class and although Americans and especially the black ones think these kind of stuff only happens in their respective country or even neighbourhood. I can tell them that it is a global phenomenon.
So actually, this stuff could make a powerful parable but it's too American in its structure and brought on the screen with to much self-pityness to really fill out such a big role - what's left is a quite good father/son story with a brilliant Laurence Fishburne stealing the show.
The artistic quality though is 80s standard flick at highest and some of the camera work is questionable.
