Review of Boys and Girls (2000) by André Ø — 27 Jul 2008
It's kind of "cute," and not entirely hateable... but the "romantic" parts were just way too sappy, and the syrupy-sweet/god-awful pop ballads certainly didn't help matters much.
I like Jason Biggs, and I guess Claire Forlani was pretty good, too. But Prinze Jr. was not at all believable in his "geek phase;" he was good in the "normal phase," I just don't think that the geek angle worked for him.
It was kind of annoying, too, because the two leads were needlessly complicating their lives and relationships; it was clear they were "meant" for each other, and we all knew they'd end up together in the end, but the means that the film took to get them to that point could have been done better.
And, for being a "Romantic-Comedy," it really wasn't all that funny; if anything, I think that the film took itself just a bit too seriously.
