Review of Boy Wonder (2010) by Rebecca H — 20 Oct 2011
I hardly find time to see a movie that is of my taste. I am always busy entertainting nieces and nephews or adhering to what others want me to see. Last weekend I attended the New York Comic Con and fell in love with Michael Morrisey's Boy Wonder.
A super hero movie done right--but not a super hero movie. It has just enough fanticy to cater to my comic book lover side and just enough drama and compelling dialogue to adhere to the film lover in me.
The role of the father, Terry Donovan is what really got to me. His ability to balance a dark and twisted past with an attempt to redeem himself as a father was beautifully done. The fight scenes (while I am not very into violence) were realistic enough to keep me engaged.
Morrissey has created a character (Sean Donovan) that is so complex that you are not sure if you love him or hate him, but you are definintly interested in what he is going to do next. Some of the supporting characters are hit or miss but Caleb Steinmeyer was born for this role.
