Review of Boy (2012) by Tamatai N — 28 Feb 2012
Hilarious, moving and incredibly uplifting, this is, without a doubt, one of the best films ever to be made in New Zealand and it certainly deserves its somewhat iconic status that it has gained for itself within its short time in existance.
Themes of identity, family, culture and the universally felt yearning for acceptance and belonging (particularly in one's youth) are the key layers that make the final product to engaging and affective, yet there is also a warm and simple story upon the surface that makes it so immensely enjoyable.
A truly astonishing triumph of a film that is destined to become an absolute classic.
