Review of Bounty Killer (2013) by Gimly M — 07 May 2014
Although Bounty Killer does suffer from an unhealthy bout of Can't-Decide-What-I-Want-To-Ripoff-Most-itis, at least the options for said ripoffery are some mighty fine pickin's.
A little Mad Max and a lot Doomsday (which to be fair was primarily a ripoff of Mad Max itself), a hefty dolop of Faster, Pussy Cat! Kill! KIll!, some straight up Machete and even a small serving of Tekken to go along with its metric fucktonne of Gearbox's Boderlands.
No actors or characters particularly stand out, sure they're all larger than life, but none of them are strictly speaking interesting. The world kind of is, but only in a very unoriginal kind of way.
It's post-apocalyptic and it's cheese-laden self important(/aware) exploitation, which are both things I'm a sucker for, but this Corman-esque piece fails to be completely satisfying. It most certainly has fantastic elements, and clearly some very good taste, no to mention it's the top tier out of the woeful B-movies I've seen in the past month, but that doesn't make it good.
But "not good" is far removed from unwatchable, and it's one of the few movies I've seen recently that I put some genuine thought in to about maybe watching again one day.
43%.
