Review of Bound for Glory (1976) by Paul Z — 25 Jul 2010
Why Hal Ashby gets so ignored when people talk about the great directors of the 60s/70s I'll never understand. Here again is an example of how good he is. This biopic is so beautiful to look at that sometimes you can forget that what's being depicted are horrible conditions.
I love how the film adopts Guthrie's meandering pace. At first you think the movies just really slow but then it sinks in that we're moving to this guys rhythms.
