Review of Bound (1996) by Matthew B — 30 Jun 2009
There's the one scene that everyone knows about, and then there's the rest of the movie, and they could easily be seen as spliced from two completely different films. Whereas the beginning of Bound focuses on the ominous affair of Tilly and Gershon, that storyline all but disappears as Tilly takes a secondary role and Gershon vanishes for the majority of the film.
What remains isn't bad, and is actually a rather unique mafia thriller, but tossing the two together in such a disjointed fashion makes it appear that the Wachowskis (who have since made a career out decent but badly executed ideas) needed a gimmick to make their mob story stand out among dozens of others.
Hence we get likely the one scene that everyone remembers from this movie.
