Review of Bottle Shock (2008) by Lee B — 18 Sep 2010
This is a nice, neat little movie that had more appeal to me than most of the world since I?m in the San Francisco Bay Area. Wine drinkers may also like this. It is fun overall, but written with some very generic situations. I know that some of it is pure fabrication, but it works out to be a simple set-up for a great underdog story. The performances are great in their rather shallow roles. And some scenes are pretty damn funny and inspiring.
Overall, it lacks a bit of true heart and suspense and action, probably because the story is really small when you think about it. But there has been a lot worse. Alan Rickman is great in this movie and Bill Pullman may seem like he has a scenery mauling kind of performance, but when you think about it, it fits. The young ones are good and it has good atmosphere that is fitting for the Napa Valley. A decent pick for someone interested.
