Review of Bottle Rocket (1996) by John M — 02 Apr 2009
Anderson's first carries lots of clues to where he would go subsequently, with stylishly framed shots, subtle moments of characterization that later yield big pay-offs, and a smart blend of visuals and soundtrack.
Owen Wilson is occasionally a little too cartoonish within the ensemble, but his work here overall makes me rethink his similar role in Darjeeling Limited. At the end I only wish the film were longer, which only shows how easily I fell into the story, and that James Caan had gotten more screentime.
