Review of Bottle Rocket (1996) by Christopher L — 27 May 2009
I think this is the first Wes Anderson movie, and it just about sums up the mix of strange emotions that I get from most of his films. There are parts that are really terribly funny, but the humor is subtle and often really painful.
It's funny because of how tragically idiotic some of these characters are, but it's hard to just call them stupid. I don't know. Maybe there's something that hits too close to home in the incompetent idealism of Dignan.
It's very hard to describe this movie, but I still liked it.
